Dušan Rodić’s spatial interventions aim providing basic living necessities such as food, shelter and energy. Creating useful objects and installations, he is questioning the role of art within the social realm. Always seeking harmony with the environment, his aesthetics are rooted in the principles of mathematics and sacred geometry. Rodić’s work is characterized by a poetic pragmatism through which sustainability and technology merge with art.
Dušan Rodić (1975, Belgrade, Serbia) studied at the Academy of Art in Belgrade, Serbia (1997 – 2001) and Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam (2006 - 2010). At the moment he is a resident at the Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten in Amsterdam.
Before moving to Amsterdam, Netherlands in 2005, Rodic lived in Belgrade, Yugoslavia professionally involved in the 'media' work as a producer, mostly in the field of advertising and political activism. Change of the regime in Serbia in the year 2000, gave him a space to dedicate his experience and knowledge to the nature conservation issues. Next few years he was involved with several environmental groups.
In the year 2004 he is moving to Amsterdam, Netherlands where he placed his work into an art context. His work is closely related to the basic living necessities such as food, water, shelter and energy. Working within the frame of providing these essential elements through his art practice, he is questioning position of the artist within the social realm or context of an art piece within the contemporary socio political climate.
Rodić's work is characterized by a poetic pragmatism through which sustainability and technology merge with art.
