The initiative to transform OT301 into a self-sufficient unit came from an existential drive to maintain its position within the Amsterdam Cultural Life. In the year 2012 more than 100 cultural institutions and organizations disappeared in Amsterdam as a consequence of the economical crisis and cultural budget cuts. With this project I am creating a model for an autonomous and self-sufficient artist community building.

The derelict elevator shaft in the building of OT301, owned by the Art collective EHBK in Amsterdam, is currently being transformed into a water filtration unit.

Creating a series of gardens in the sun-lit former elevator shaft, rain water is collected and run through the garden system, emulating the natural process of water filtration. The quality of water will be tested before and after the process. Ideally, it will provide a healthy source of potable water.
